The Casualties at The Siren in Morro Bay

David Rodriguez, the high-energy Vocalist that captained Austin street punk breakouts Krum Bums before Starting hardcore band Starving Wolves, he has been asked by The Casualties to front the veteran NYC punk gang following the sudden departure of original vocalist Jorge Herrera. I had the opportunity to talk with David about the quarantine, new music ,and much more.

Q: What are the plans for the future? A: Well as for now, sit and wait for the world to start getting safe and healthy! But Starving Wolves is about to announce our DEBUT record release of True Fire.  Q: you've fronted Starving Wolves  and the Krumb Bums, how is it now fronting The Casualties? A: I beg your pardon, I have NEVER fronted a band named crumb bums!!!!! Fronting the Casualties is just like anything else I do. If I’m going to be part of something, it must be 100%. I’m not a big fan of kinda doing things. I put my heart and sole into the music I make and to the people I play with. Q: How did fronting The Casualties come about? A: I have been friends with the guys for almost 20 years and we are like brothers. Q: What was your first gig with the casualties like and where was it  A: My first gig was at a fest in Tulsa, Ok. The F**k You We Rule Fest. I had only practiced once very briefly with them before hand. I wrote all the lyrics on the back of cases of beer boxes and taped them all over the stage. Q: What got you envolved in music in the first place?  How do you feel about the internet in the music business? A: Well you don’t really choose music, it chooses you. People who are consumed by it are as much addicts to it, as composers. There have been times I wish I didn’t have music running through my head all day and night. But over all it is my passion since I was very young. And the internet question is now like asking how do I feel about pollution! It’s here, and as long as we use computers it will always be here, so it honestly doesn’t matter how I feel. And in reality has now just become part of life, without the internet, you would not have been able to reach out to me so easily.

Q: What new music they like? A: Hhhhhmmmmhhh, there’s a lot of young bands out there really working hard: The Disowned, Hellfury, Kenetic Dischord  Q: Who  are some musical icons that influence you/Casualties? A: Wattie from Exploited, Collin from GBH, David Yow of The Jesus Lizard, Mike Patton of Faith No More. Q: Favorite local venue to play and why? A: The Mohawk and Red 7 in Austin TEXAS. Great stage and great staff. A great club should always feel like coming home and these 2 clubs treat traveling bands like family! Q: How has this quarantine affected you/The casualties?  A: It has ruined an enormous tour we had scheduled with Leftover Crack, it has ruined a  huge east coast tour, it has ruined a huge European tour........ Q: What projects have you been working on (if any) during this off time? A: Projects..... well I’m working on getting a very important person into the United States and our racist President continues to screw with the Immigration laws, soooooooo that’s been fun. And I’m working on T.V. show type project called Unsinkable, where I interview people about the hard work they do to accomplish their goals. Q: How long does it take to get your Mohawk to look so perfect? A: A lifetime Check out Davids New Podcast/Show Unsinkable Where he interviews people about the hard work they do to accomplish their goals.
